GIRL SCOUTS BEYOND BARS
DRAFT LANGUAGE GSBB targets girls whose mothers are incarcerated, providing support services through bimonthly troop meetings, monthly prison visits, individual mentoring with positive female role models, individual and group therapy, and assistance with family and community reunification. The goal of GSBB is to reduce the number of girls with incarcerated parents who participate in high-risk behaviors and enter into the juvenile justice system. The program seeks to break the cycle of intergenerational criminality and facilitate a healthy bond between mother and child. In the 15-year history of GSBB, none of the participating girls has been involved in the juvenile justice system.
